TDBactiLink is a microbiology and bacteriology middleware that interfaces with any LIS as it receives electronically the tests requests transmitted by the existing LIS, and then manages the sample reception and finally resends the results once they have been clinically and/or technically reviewed. TDBactiLink can adjust to any configurations.
- Urinary cytology instruments
- Blood culture instruments
- Mass spectrometry instruments
- Identification and antibiotic sensitivity instruments
- Concentrators
- Microbiology Lab Automation systems (BD KiestraTM and Copan WASPLabsTM systems)
TDBactiLink easily integrates the existing LIS and other laboratory instruments as it is interoperable with all the LIS on the market and connected to all the microbiology instruments, including Microbiology Lab Automation systems (BD KiestraTM and Copan WaspLabTM systems).
Tasks managed by the LIS:
- Patient demographics and administrative data management
- Test request creation
- Sample collection and primary sample labelling
- Result reception from the middleware
- Clinical review (this can be performed with TDBactiLink)
- Result printout and transmission to the HIS
- Billing
- Archiving
Tasks managed by TDBactiLink, our microbiology and bacteriology middleware:
- Primary sample reception
- Work dispatching and work place selection
- Secondary sample labelling
- Work lists management
- Streaking and media management
- Management of microbiology instruments and Lab Automation systems
- Instruments results acquisition
- Results manual entry
- Technical validation
- Clinical validation (optional)
- Phoned results management
- Patient infection history
- Audit and traceability
- Epidemiology
- Alerts
- Suspected nosocomial infections
- Protocols and workflows: the paperless workbench will guide the user through the sample management and the result entry
- Expert rules:
- Manage alerts and exceptions
- Optimize the turnaround time
- Optimize the workload and the production costs - Free choice of result entry (electronically or via instrument connections)
- Real-time epidemiology alerts
(threshold alerts or user-defined criteria) - Epidemiology reports
(incidence, sensitivity tests reports, graphical representations, duplicate rules management) - Duplicate rules management
(configurable in compliance with standard requirements: CLSI, EUCAST, ONERBA) - Compatibility with disease surveillance systems
(data exports to COSURV, WHONET and EARSS) - Dynamic link with the patient
(access the analytical workflow and patient details via epidemiology query screens)
The user can also cross-reference data and track organisms that are potentially responsible for nosocomial infections via the multi-criteria data extraction module. Indeed, it is possible to search for potential cases of nosocomial infections by entering a collection date and a minimum length of hospital stay.

- Methods standardization: analytical protocols provide the user with some guidance as the test is being processed, and reduce error rates.
- Full traceability of all stages, for all the users
- Confidentiality management and user rights adapted to the user profile
- Email and text messages alerts management for an improved reactivity in the event of multidrug-resistant bacteria and suspected nosocomial infections
- A contextual access to Quality documents depending on the protocols in progress
- A control panel with indicators to manage the laboratory activities in real time
TDBactiLink also facilitates the system deployment thanks to virtual machine configurations (VMware®).
The benefits of paperless microbiology and bacteriology
![]() |
TDBactiLink middleware solution increases microbiology and bacteriology laboratories’ productivity by tracking paperless workflows on a real electronic workbench, which brings other significant benefits such as, more efficiency, more traceability, an improved patient safety and shorter turnaround times. |

TDBactiLink middleware can significantly improve traceability at any levels (patient, request, sample, media, and colony) in order to meet the ISO 15189 requirements. It is even possible to customize the level of traceability for a given protocol.

TDBactiLink middleware has been designed with microbiologists, and the customizable result entry screen displays all the analytical process steps as the protocol in progress goes along. The protocol standardization provides the user with some guidance and reduces the risk of errors. The intuitive interface has been designed to facilitate users’ daily tasks when it comes to negative result entry for example, thus, technicians can optimize their time and productivity, and focus on positive results that require their expertise.
